Simple yet effective tools for purpose-driven women
A new year awaits. I believe this next year will be full of meaningful transitions, elevated goals, and double blessings for those who make an impact and inspire others! To step into all God has for us in the new year, here are the top three (3) ways that I recommend you prepare for the year ahead. These three steps are simple yet effective. I’m sure you’ll find value in these meaningful exercises.
Simple yet effective tools
As moms pursuing purpose in all that we do, our multifaceted nature invites tension between career ambitions and the desire to be present for their children. This tension arises from the struggle to excel in our endeavors (whether it be career, business, ministry, or philanthropic) while also being actively involved in their children’s lives, creating a constant balancing act between work, family, and personal commitments.

This leads to challenges in managing day-to-day priorities but also managing longer-term planning. I’ve found that planning longer term at a high level helps me to maintain a greater sense of balance as a mom. Essentially, preparing for the new year in advance gives me a “birds eye view” or comprehensive outlook of the next 12 months.
Effective methods to prepare for the new year
Some simple and effective tools that you can use to prepare for the months ahead:
- Brain dump – A brain dump is a helpful technique to clear mental clutter by getting your thoughts and ideas out of your head and onto paper.
- Mind map – A mind map is a visual of ideas, concepts, or information that is centered around a theme, idea, or image.
- Kanban Boards – let’s take a page from Project Management practices. Using a Kanban board for personal organization can be a powerful technique. This technique helps moms to manage tasks and projects in a systematic and organized way.
- Smart Goal – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound! Smart goals ensure that goals are clearly defined, quantifiable, realistic, aligned with broader objectives, and bound by a specific timeframe, enhancing the likelihood of success.
- Annual Planning - This process is highly effective and much needed if you desire to accomplish anything great in the year (or in life in general). Annual planning includes the process of setting goals, defining priorities, and outlining actions for the upcoming year

One of the frequently asked planning questions that I receive is, “Should you actually plan for the entire year?”

Top 3 Ways Moms Should Prepare for the New Year
1 – Reflect on the past year
Take time to review your year. Be open and honest with yourself as you assess your accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities. Further, being reflective can help you set realistic goals for the upcoming year.
2 – Set meaningful goals using a method that resonates best with you
As a purpose-driven mom, I encourage you to define clear and achievable goals for the new year. Your goals should include a mix of both personal and professional goals.
3 – Create a plan
Once you set your goals, break them down into smaller, actionable steps. From there plan the steps into your months, weeks, and days. During your annual planning process, it’s important to develop a strategy to reach your goals, outlining specific actions and timelines.
To wrap it up
In conclusion, preparing for the new year helps moms navigate challenges, maintain a healthy balance, prioritize, and ensure that we can focus on both our well-being and the well-being of our families. I encourage all moms to give these three preparation techniques a try.
