Simple strategies to help you feel confident, prepared, and fully present on your getaway

Summer is the perfect time to reset, recharge, and reconnect with yourself. Although summer is not my favorite season, I appreciate the opportunity it provided for downtime.  With the kids out of school and the chance to spend time with family, it opens the door to a momcation. As moms, we spend so much of our time pouring into everyone else, especially throughout the school year, that the idea of taking a solo trip can feel unfamiliar or even uncomfortable. What if I told you quick getaways do not have to be complicated? Some of the best trips are the ones that are easy to access and simple to plan. I love sharing travel tips and vacations here on my blog! I am excited about today’s post. I will be sharing tips so you can momcation with confidence.

Releasing Mom Guilt and Choosing Yourself

Taking time away as a mom is not something to feel guilty about. It is something to embrace. You are allowed to enjoy your life in this season. Stepping away creates space for clarity, rest, and joy that pours back into your family when you return. When you prioritize your well being, you show your children what it looks like to care for yourself in a healthy way. A short trip can reset your mind, restore your energy, and remind you of who you are outside of your daily responsibilities. To help me manage, I consider cities with direct flights, short drive destinations, or places where I can maximize my time without a packed itinerary. Keeping travel keeps my mind at ease. The goal is to make travel feel doable and enjoyable without adding stress, which in turn helps minimize mom guilt.

Here are a few affirmations to speak over yourself as you prepare for your trip to put your mind at ease:

  • I deserve rest and time to recharge
  • Taking care of myself helps me better care for my family
  • I can step away and still be a present and loving mom
  • My well being matters in every season of life
  • I am creating balance and that is a good thing

Safety First: Momcation Solo Travel Safety Tips

Safety is always a top priority when traveling solo. Choosing destinations that are known to be solo travel friendly is a great place to start. Look for areas with strong tourism, walkable neighborhoods, and reliable transportation. Before booking, take time to read recent reviews, research neighborhoods, and check for safety insights from other travelers. Platforms like Tripadvisor and Viator can help you find highly rated tours and experiences while also giving insight into what to expect. Review hotel feedback, understand the surrounding area, and plan how you will get around. Most importantly, share your itinerary with someone you trust and remain aware of your surroundings.

Nothing is guaranteed, so always use discernment and trust your instincts.

Enjoying the Destination on Your Own Terms

Once you arrive, give yourself permission to enjoy the destination in your own way. Solo travel allows you to move at your own pace and explore what genuinely interests you. Here is some travel inspo featuring some of my favorite destinations.

Chicago Donut Tour

In Chicago, I joined a donut tour that was both fun and interactive. It was a simple way to explore the city, meet people, and try local favorites. Tours like this are easy to find on platforms like Tripadvisor and Viator, making planning feel effortless.

Sometimes the most meaningful experiences are the simplest ones. In Miami, I spent time by the beach journaling and reflecting. There was no agenda, just space to think and breathe. These quiet moments are often the most impactful and help you reconnect with yourself.

In New York City, I booked a night tour with the Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises. It offered a relaxing way to learn about the city while taking in the skyline. Experiences like this are ideal for solo travelers because they provide structure while still allowing you to enjoy quiet moments. If you are traveling solo, excursions like this can be very relaxing.  It gives you an opportunity to be present in that moment and just enjoy.

Staying active can also be part of your experience. Walking along River Street in Savannah gave me a chance to enjoy the scenery while moving my body. I like to call it movement. It is a simple way to boost your mood and stay present during your trip.

If you enjoy a little indulgence, give yourself permission to do so within reason. During a visit to Mall of America, I enjoyed a bit of retail therapy. It was not about spending without limits. It was about enjoying the moment and treating myself within my budget.

And do not overlook local gems. In Portland, I spent time in a cozy coffee shop, taking in the atmosphere and slowing down. Exploring local staples allows you to experience a city in a more personal way and often becomes one of the most memorable parts of the trip.

To Wrap It Up

I hope this inspired you to see solo travel in a new way and to give yourself permission to experience it without guilt. As you focus on what fills you up, I pray you are rejuvenated beyond your expectations. For me, quick getaways have become powerful experiences that support my well-being.

Remember, you deserve time to explore, to rest, and to enjoy your life in this season. When you take that time, you are not taking away from your family. You are returning to them refreshed, grounded, and more present. Even a short trip can make a lasting impact on your mindset and your energy.

If you have taken a solo trip or are planning one, I would love to hear from you. Share your favorite destinations, safety tips, or planning strategies in the comments so we can continue to support and inspire each other as moms choosing to live fully.
