Why I Keep My Planners and Journals
By: Dr. Debranetta, Mom, Strategist, Chief of Staff
I have always loved a good planner and a beautiful journal. As a child, I was always writing my wildest dreams in a notebook. I also wrote down my to do list and kept checklist for days. There is something about putting pen to paper that makes a thought, goal, prayer, or idea feel more tangible. For me, stationery is not simply something pretty to use. The pages hold the stories of where I have been, what I am believing for, what I am working towards, and how I have grown through life. And, let me be the first to testify that I have come a long way.
Quality journals and planners stand the test of time. They become archives of ones life and a record books of sorts that capture life’s moments, milestones, goals, prayers, ideas, and seasons that shape us. Years later, those pages can take you back to a specific moment. I found myself flipping through planners from 2017 while I was packing for a move and the memories of that year flooded me. I flipped through the pages, noting doctor’s appointments as I prepared to birth my son. There were scriptures, breath prayers, and other written words of encouragement that lifted my spirits.
Years later, those pages took me back to specific moments and beautiful memories.
Remembering is Powerful

There is a Scripture that often comes to mind when I think about this practice of remembering. Lamentations 3:21 says, “This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.” Other translations phrase it as, “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this.”
That verse captures something I believe we overlook. Remembering is powerful. Sometimes we need to intentionally recall the goodness of the Lord we experienced for ourselves.
Moreover, recognizing the evidence of God’s faithfulness allows us to approach the present and future with a greater sense of hope.
A Peek Into My Wishlist
I recently stopped into Louis Vuitton to pick up my 2027 planner refill. The LV Medium Agenda is one of my favorite planners. But while I was there, I found myself looking at the stationery.
I love a well-made journal. Not just because it is beautiful, but because I want the things I write in to last. As I mentioned above, these pages can become archives of our lives. I find Louis Vuitton stationery to be exceptionally well made. I am not just purchasing something to write in for a few months. I am thinking about how it will look and feel years from now when I revisit those pages. That said, I am not suggesting that more affordable stationery is not well made. Quite the opposite. There are so many wonderful stationery companies, boutique paper shops, independent makers, and artisans creating beautiful products at a variety of price points. Quality stationery does not have to come with a luxury price tag.
However, here is a sneak peek at my wish list!

To Wrap it Up
In the end, my love for journals and planners is about more than stationery. It is about capturing the moments that make up a life in many different ways. Over time, those pages become a tangible record of where I have been and how I have grown. Lamentations 3:21 says, “This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.” When I look through old planners and journals, those pages remind me that God has been faithful through every season. That is why I believe there is value in paper planner, journals and stationery.
