Hey Mom! How are you coping? How are you dealing with the COVID-19 Pandemic, homeschooling, working remote, not working… etc?
This situation has shown me the importance of protecting my peace. In these unique times, remaining calm, collected, and orderly is so important. It is important to my family, my work and most importantly my mental state.
Here are 7 strategies to help you maintain a level of peace during crises:
#1 Set Work Boundaries and Take Time Off
Set the tone for what is acceptable from your family, friends, and colleagues.
#Storytime – I had a rough day working from home at the onset of quarantine. I felt like there was no adjustment period for the team to settle into our new working arrangements (ie. 100% virtual on lock down). I was hit with multiple demands and little grace shown. Every task was a fire drill. After completing my deliverable, I put in PTO for the very next day. I made sure my work was complete and that I had coverage in the event of an emergency.
In that moment of frustration, I made the decision to protect my peace, take time off and recuperate!
Journaling is a great way to heal through trauma, gain confidence, and shift your mood. I encourage you to reflect on what you were grateful for in the past as it will help shape your current perspective.
If you’ve read my other blogs or follow me on YouTube, you already know that I am a huge fan of journaling. It really does help to clear the mind! I have a dedicated gratitude journal from Erin Condren that offers daily prompts to reflect on.
#3 Adjust Your Thinking
Philippians 4:8 (NIV Bible) “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Mindset is everything. Your thoughts become your emotions which feed into your actions and determine outcomes. If you desire positive outcomes, think positively.
#4 Commit to Self- Care
Self-Care can include a wide range of personalized activities that rejuvenate and refresh your mind, body and soul. Self-care is an important part of wellness and helps to prevent illness.

#5 Come Up with a Routine
Routines are a great way to organize life’s chaos because it adds flow and structure to your day. Routines don’t have to be super strict, but they should provide guardrails for your day.
#6 Be Still
Take time to pray, meditate and turn the world off. Dedicate moments throughout the day to do nothing. Oftentimes, stillness is associated with a lack of productivity. For some, we have developed a “grind all day” mentality. Stillness is important and the “grind all day” mentality does not serve us well in crisis.
#7 Take a Break from News and Media
Constantly watching the news and media can lead to stress, mental fatigue and depression. It can be so overwhelming during a crisis. Stay informed as it relates to safety precautions and relevant updates for you and your family, but don’t let knowledge and facts overwhelm you.
