Can Skin Care also be Self-Care for Busy Moms?

Hey Mom, can I be honest for a minute?  For the longest time, I have viewed skin care as self-maintenance as opposed to self -care.

Self- maintenance, to me, is something more along the lines of personal upkeep.  You know what I mean… like brushing our teeth.  It’s something we do to maintain healthy bodies. I personally don’t consider brushing my teeth as self-care since self- care has a more soothing and therapeutic aspect to it.

The more I started exploring various skin care brands and trying new products, I’ve discovered that skin care can be, and is also, a form of self-care! For us busy moms, self-care is so important! We need to leverage every opportunity to nurture and care for ourselves. Skin care routines provide a quick win for accomplishing daily self-care goals.

Here are 3 ways you can incorporate skin care into your self-care routine:

1- Typically, when you’re preparing for the night, you are by yourself attending to your personal hygiene.  That’s the perfect time to decompress from the day and spend time alone with your own thoughts. Sing, pray, meditate, and melt the day away.

2- Find products that are going to be relaxing such as facial mask, eye patches, etc.  Once a week, I like to apply a mask and lay down in the bed while it sits.  I used to put a mask on and finish housework but I stopped doing that.  I now use that time to just relax!

Serums are a great addition to your skin care routine.   Taking a few extra moments to massage the serums and/or oils into my skin is so relaxing.  Not only that, but it leaves my skin looking refreshed, hydrated and oh so smooth.

If you want to go all out, you can invest in a facial massager which is a great way to release muscle tension in the face.

3- Do not rush the process.  Even if you are not a fan of skin care products, that’s OK! Whatever your routine entails, take your time and enjoy the moment alone.

What is your skin care routine?  How will you elevate your practices so that the focus is more on self-care overall? Let me know in the comments!

2021 Planner – Organizing Motherhood with Planning

If you’ve followed me for a while then you know I’m serious about my planners, organization and time management. It helps me to balance life and make it all work!

  1. I focus on my skin care nightly, its the time of the day that I have a moment to myself so that becomes my self care time for mommy.

  2. I never thought skin care would be important to me till I had a daughter who loves being pampered in every way.

  3. YES … at the end of the day I take 5-10 mins in the bathroom alone to go through my routine. Helps me wind down before getting into bed.

  4. Yes! I love taking the time to take care of my skin by myself before I go to bed. It’s relaxing and my face always feels good the next day.

  5. I have to be honest, there are some days (many of them) when I’m so busy that I leave skin care on the second place. Which is not ideal. I will make an effort to pamper my skin at least a few times a week, as it should be normal.

  6. Agree 100%. I’ve never had any reason to care for my skin, but have found that taking those 10 minutes each night really just allowed me to relax and feel pampered 😊

  7. This is all true. After having my baby, it seems like everything is so rushed and I don’t even have 5 min to myself! I need to do better! Thanks for this! Great post

  8. I agree 100%! Doing my skin routine feels like a tiny little escape at the end of the day!

  9. Yes!!! So I started getting counseling a couple months ago and my counselors first assignment for me was self care. I had no idea where to start so I started with simply taking care of my skin. It was like the first step to learning to take care of myself and paved the way to learning more ways.

  10. It is useless to take care of our skin only when we see that its appearance is not good. In skincare, prevention is key and consistency even more. And we must have a little time for our self for this matter things

  11. I love this article. Skincare is a vital part of my life, my favorite thing to do after a busy day is get my baby to sleep and relax in a bubble bath with a face mask on. It really is self-care for me. Great job!

  12. Thanks for the tips! I really need to step up my game in this area and now that I have a little girl we can do some things together!

  13. I don’t have a skin care routine, my face gets washed in the shower and that’s about it. I definitely want to be better at washing and moisturizing my face every night.

  14. I always say I’m going to get better about skin care and then just don’t! LOL. But this post inspired me to really make it a priority. It’s definitely 5 minutes where you can do something nice for yourself.
