5 Go To Morning Journal Prompts for Working Moms

In today's post, I am sharing my five go-to morning journal prompts that help me to jump start my day with purpose and intention.

Start the day with intention and focus

The area that I wish I could maintain consistency the most in is with my morning routine. In a recent blog post, I shared 3 Essential Routines Every Working Family Needs, and discussed my desire for a more consistent morning routine. Jump starting the day in with a consistent and meaningful routine can greatly influence the course of your day. By establishing positive morning habits, such as exercise, prayer, or setting specific goals for the day, you can set the tone for a productive and fulfilling day. These activities help boost your mood, motivation, and energy, creating a solid foundation for success in whatever you have planned. Among my favorite ways to start my day is journaling. In today’s post, I am sharing my five go-to morning journal prompts that help me navigate my work day.

Benefits of Journaling

Journaling has many benefits. The most impactful benefit for me is that journaling has been a powerful tool for stress relief, emotional release, and overall mental well-being. Sometimes, I approach journaling from a brain dump perspective, and other times, I leverage prompts. As a working mom, this practice has helped me navigate daily challenges more clearly and calmly. Journaling also promotes better problem-solving skills, creativity, and communication, all essential in managing personal and family life effectively. Here are 8 benefits of journaling:

  1. Goal setting and attainment
  2. Stress relief
  3. Mental health benefits
  4. Supports healing and recovery
  5. Boost creativity
  6. Enhances mental capacity and fortitude
  7. Increases gratitude and appreciation for often overlooked small things
  8. Tracks growth and progress

Jump starting the day

There are many effective ways to start our day. From a “breakfast of champions” to prayer, how each person jump starts their day will be unique and based on the person’s needs, family dynamics, and other factors. The key is to create a routine that aligns with your goals and values, giving you the best start possible for a busy day ahead.

Here are 5 morning journal prompts tailored for working moms to help jumpstart the day:

Prompt 1: Who or what needs my attention today, and how can I balance that with my own needs?

This journal prompt allows us to bring important task to the forefront of our minds. As you journal with this prompt, focus on the juggling act between to-do’s and your own personal needs.

Here is a sample journal entry excerpt – As I think about who or what requires my attention today, I realize the significance of being there for my family while also making sure I take time for myself. I will give importance to meaningful interactions with my children, while also carving out a few moments for myself, possibly through prayer or quiet reflection.

Prompt 2: What challenges do I anticipate today, and how can I approach them with patience and positivity?

This prompt supports reframing challenges into opportunities and allows you to start the day with a positive outlook.

Prompt 3: What are my top three priorities today, and why are they important to me?

Prioritizing is key. I would even argue that we should focus on prioritizing instead of managing our time. There are never really enough hours in the day. The focus is not on filling our schedules with more tasks, but on creating space for what is truly important. This change in mindset brings a sense of peace and purpose, making us feel more centered even when life is busy. When we prioritize effectively, we honor our commitments to both ourselves and our loved ones. This sense of responsibility and commitment leads to a more balanced and intentional life.

Prompt 4: What worries or burdens can I surrender to God today, trusting in His plan for me?

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Prompt 5: How can I invite God into my day today to help me remain focused and intentional with my time?

Inviting God into your day can help you stay focused and intentional. Dedicate quiet moments each morning to pray for guidance and strength. Choose a Bible verse or devotional to ground yourself, staying centered on God’s presence and purpose in your life.
