Non-sponsored review of my Hello Fresh Subscription
I get asked all the time “Is Hello Fresh worth it”. In short, my answer is yes and no. Today’s quick blog post will be a review of my favorite Hello Fresh meals, my thoughts about the subscription service, and my thoughts on the pricing.
How it all started…
Let’s start with the highlights. I’ve been able to create some unique and delicious meals because of this meal delivery service. Hello Fresh is the only meal delivery service I have tried. I know there are a ton that has emerged over the past few years to meet dietary needs and other specifications.
I learned about Hello Fresh a while ago through social media but always passed on any deals. In all transparency, I was extremely skeptical about having food, particularly meat, delivered to my door. I used a local produce delivery service for a few years off and on prior to 2020. I found it to be a great way to support local farmers and a small business while eating fresh produce. It was called Papa Spuds and they also had an option to add meats, cheese, and dairy products to the box. I always passed on those items for the reason mentioned above. I just did not want meat, milk, cheese, and the likes delivered to my door.
Fast forward to the summer of 2021, I was having a meal prep conversation with my friend and she raved about Hello Fresh. She was a trusted resource and she eased my concerns about having food delivered to my home.
I signed up with her promo code and the rest is history!
My favorite meals…
I have tried a number of different meal options and below are my favorites:
- White Cheddar Wonderburgers
- Warm Buttered Shrimp Rolls
- Apricot, Almond & Chickpea Tagine (my initial favorite that I have ordered a FEW times)
- Firecracker Meatballs (a notable classic for many)
- Roasted Veggie Farro Bowls
- Yucatan Citrus Chicken Bowls (unexpected favorite)
My favorite add on’s include:
- Sweet Kale Salad
- Vanilla Dunkaroos (the kids insist)
- Pepperoni Focaccia Flatbread (quick lunch in between work meetings)
My thoughts about the service…
Overall, I have had a great experience with Hello Fresh. There have been a few times when I had to call customer service to complain about food quality. For example, I had to get credit for:
- Mushy shrimp
- Moldy ginger root
- Severely wilted chives
- Brown Beef
- A few other smaller instances
I know you are probably thinking, why am I still with this company. Compared to the number of boxes I have received the number of issues has been minimal overall.
Thoughts on pricing…
You can eat fresh and quick meals on a budget if you shop sales, leverage coupons, and meal planning.
I checked at the time of this video, July 1, and for a box with 3 meals to feed 2 people each the cost is/was, $71.93. This includes the food cost of $61.94 and the shipping of $9.99.
Add on’s such as bag salads and flatbread are actually very comparable to grocery store prices.
To Wrap it Up
Overall, I would recommend Hello Fresh to busy moms who need quick and easy meal options that a pre-arranged and ready to cook. I have found it helpful on busy nights when we want a delicious meal and fast.
