Year End Survival Guide for Working Moms: Home & Family Overload

Year End Survival Guide, Part 2. I'm sharing tips for keeping faith and family front and center during the busy holiday season.

Keeping Faith and Family at the Center During a Busy Holiday Season

Welcome to part two of the Year End Survival Guide for Working Moms! Today’s focus is on home and family overload. I’m sharing tips for keeping faith and family front and center during the busy holiday season. Why? Because at home, the holidays are a time when we become more mindful of our faith and more intentional about how we show up for our families. For me, I prioritize slowing down long enough to enjoy the moments God blessed me with.

Prioritizing Faith and Family

One way to stay grounded is by prioritizing faith and family. The holidays get busy. If you read the first post in this series, I shared practical ways to navigate work and leadership pressure at the end of the year. That post focused on leading well during a demanding season.

The holiday season can easily get crowded with events and expectations, so choose the traditions that matter most and let them be your anchor. For us, we enjoy Christmas Markets! The simple joy of walking around together, sipping something warm, and taking in the lights screams Christmas. We also enjoy activities such a Christmas Town at Bush Gardens and ICE at Gaylord Resorts.

Remember, you do not have to do it all to create a meaningful holiday season. Sometimes simplifying is the most faith-filled and family-centered decision you can make. Give yourself permission to scale back on activities and embrace memorable small moments.

Preventing Overload

Here are three practical ways to prevent overload:

  1. Set clear limits on your time and budget.
  2. Give yourself open pockets of free/buffer time each week.
  3. Communication is key

You can prevent overload by planning ahead for the busiest moments of your week and preparing what you can in advance. This provides structure and prevents you from extending yourself too far. It also helps with budget management because your plans should account for your spend. Stick to the plan… stick to the budget. By inviting your family into the planning process, everyone understands what needs to be done and when. This helps you carry the load with more confidence and creates a home that works together rather than leaving everything on your shoulders.

In Conclusion

Thank you for joining me for part two of the Year End Survival Guide for Working Moms. I would love to hear what helps you manage home and family during this busy time. Share your thoughts in the comments and stay tuned for part three as we continue to close out the year with purpose.
