Travel tips that support local communities
In my last blog post, I shared some summer travel. My kids participate in Track and Field, and this activity has taken me and my children to some amazing places. We’ve traveled to places that we otherwise wouldn’t have visited. One thing I’ve appreciated through my travels is the opportunity to support local businesses. In addition to traveling with my children, I also enjoy solo “momcations” and other trips. In today’s post, I’m sharing travel tips that embrace support for local businesses.
Travel Far
I love to travel. At one point, I had a random goal f traveling to all US States by a certain time. I missed the timeframe, but will keep checking off states in the coming years.
One reason I enjoy traveling is the opportunity to embrace new places and new experiences. To me, traveling is an opportunity to immerse myself in experiences I’ve never had before. Every destination holds its own personality and story, and I love how each trip adds a new layer to my perspective. Embracing new places and experiences keeps me curious and reminds me that there’s so much beauty waiting to be discovered when we step outside our comfort zones.

Travel Far…
Oh, the places you will go…
I’ve traveled for work, fun, and family, and each experience has taken me to some amazing places. Check out these blog posts for inspiration.

5 Travel Tips & Ways to Support Local Businesses While Exploring

Book Local Accommodations
I’m a Hyatt and Marriott brand loyalist, but I’ve been looking for boutique and privately owned accommodations.
Eat Where the Locals Eat
Choose family-run restaurants, street food vendors, and neighborhood cafés. Not only will you get authentic flavors, but you’ll also support small business owners directly.
Shop with Local Artisans
Buy souvenirs, crafts, and clothing from local markets and makers instead of mass-produced tourist shops. Each purchase tells a story and helps sustain cultural and local traditions.
Book Local Guides & Experiences
Local tours and experiences add to the travel experience. Hire local tour guides or sign up for community-run excursions.
Be Mindful of Your Spending
Even small purchases like coffee, snacks, or taxi rides can make a big difference to a local business. Spread your spending across different shops and vendors whenever possible.
