New Month, New Opportunities: What does this even mean?

An invitation to position ourselves for new seasons, experiences, and routines. Let's explore practical ways to embrace "the new".

7 ways to position yourself for new seasons, new experiences, and new routines

We hear it all the time, “New Month, New Opportunities”. But what does this actually mean when you’re juggling multiple responsibilities and trying to balance it all? Has this sentiment become a part of everyday nomenclature as opposed to an invitation to position ourselves for new seasons, experiences, and routines? In today’s blog post, let’s explore practical ways to embrace “the new”.

All things NEW

Every new day, week, and month is a fresh slate with it’s own potential. We sometimes forget that time itself gives us permission to begin again. I’ve blogged about this in previous blogs. Check them out below.

New Seasons

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

Isaiah 43:19

Each season, whether literal, like spring or fall, or symbolic, brings its own opportunities and challenges. For me personally, I can sense shifts in my life. Sometimes it’s inspiring and sometimes Im apprehensive. I’ll be transparent here. Every seasonal shift is not roses. Some shifts force us outside of our comfort zones. When that happens, the temptation to retreat becomes a reality.

Additionally, new seasons can be unpredictable. We may have never seen it coming. I encourage you, in these times, to lean in and allow the process to grow you. When you allow yourself to explore, experiment, and even fail forward, you build resilience and discover skills you never knew you had.

Lastly, some new seasons allow us time to prepare. That’s great when it happens. In these cases, our ability to plan and set goals is helpful and makes for a smooth transition.

New Experiences

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, forr the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

New experiences are often fun-filled and desirable opportunities to try something new. They can be as simple as exploring a new hobby, visiting a different city, or attending a networking event where you don’t know anyone. Or they can be major life shifts like starting a new job, launching a business, or becoming a parent. Whatever the case, they offer a unique blend of excitement, nervousness, and transformation. Here are some ways to embrace new experiences:

  1. Remaining open minded
  2. Let go of perfectionism
  3. Celebrate the courage to try
  4. Reflect often

New Routines

“Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.”

Proverbs 21:5

Your daily habits shape your future. A new week or month is the perfect chance to refresh your routines to better support your goals.  It also helps to keep you grounded when juggling various activities.

Sometimes, I shift my routines and embrace flexibility. To me, new routines are an act of good stewardship. It shows that I value my time and my family’s time enough to do what’s best in each moment. When we hold on to routines that no longer serve our current situation, it invites chaos and confusion. Neither of which we want in our lives.

7 Practical Ways to Position for the New

1. Start with gratitude

Before diving into your plans, pause and give thanks. Gratitude shifts your mindset from lack to abundance. It also creates the best foundation for attracting new opportunities.

2. Reset your environment when needed

A refreshed physical space allows for mental clarity.

3. Set a few (minimal) clear intentions

Don’t overdo it. Keep your intentions for any given period of time powerful simple.

4. Reflect often

Pause to review the past and reflect on your accomplishments, opportunities for improvement, and what’s needed.

5. Protect your time

Not every request deserves a “yes.” Guard your calendar like the vision you’re building depends on it.

6. Stay curious

Opportunities don’t always look like we expect. Ask questions and be willing to embrace new things.

7. Plan with purpose

Here’s a blog post dedicated to this topic.
