Underground Donut Tour
Welcome to the Windy City where the streets are paved with history and the aroma of freshly baked donuts fills the air. If you’re a foodie like me with a sweet tooth and a penchant for exploration, the Underground Donut Tour in Chicago, Illinois, is your ticket to an unforgettable culinary adventure. In today’s post, I’m sharing a peek into my recent vacation and travel adventure to Chicago, Illinois. During mini momcation my friend and I embarked upon a foodie adventure she discovered on Air B&B Adventures.
The Underground Donut Tour is more than just a foodie’s paradise. As you indulge in delicious treats, you’ll also learn about the rich history and culture of Chicago.

The tour begins at the Doughnut Vault, one of Chicago’s pioneers of artisanal donuts in the city. Inside the space is small and fun. During the tour, our guide provided facts about each location visited. It turns out this shop is an old bank vault, hence the name, Doughnut Vault!

Our Chicago Downtown Donut Tour | Best Food Tours In Your City | Underground Donut Tour lasted a little over 2 hours and included a ton of walking. Thankfully, these instructions were very clear on the website. I prepared accordingly. To ensure I did not enter into sugar overload, my water bottle was filled and on hand. I appreciate that the tour started on time and our amazing tour guide who took the time to connect with each group on the tour.
In total, there were 16 people on our tour. I believe March is still considered “off season” for Chicago tourism but the tour was close to sold out. The weather was still cold but not unbearable. There were a few children on the tour and it appeared that they were having a good time as well. I can see this being an adventure that my children would also enjoy.
I have fruit and juice only for breakfast. Something light to start the day. I would highly advise that attendees come hungry. Although the donuts, are divided out into fourths by the end of the tour I was full. When we arrived at the finally stop I could only enjoy small portions of my donut fraction. Even with all of the walking we did, it wasn’t enough to walk off the donuts.
Here’s what we enjoyed along the journey:
- Doughnut Vault – Lemon Lavender Old Fashion and Chocolate Yeast
- Firecakes Craft Donuts – Tahitian Vanilla Iced and Wildflower Honey Glazed along with the seasonal special, ROBIN’S EGG. This was a chocolate cake donut, topped with Robin’s Egg blue vanilla icing, and a chocolate drizzle
- Stan’s Donuts & Coffee – LeStan Croissant Donut and Biscoff Pocket
- Do-Rite Donuts and Chicken – Buttermilk Old Fashioned and Blueberry Crumb

A Great Vacation
