How to Revive Your Goals

I had an amazing time at my local Business Professional Women’s Monthly Dinner.  The topic was “Why Finding Your Purpose Matters”.  It was great to get out and network and connect with other like-minded women. 

I set a 2019 goal to build my network and to join an association or organization that would provide both professional and personal growth opportunities. 

Transparency moment, I kept putting off this goal until I said, “enough is enough… no goal left behind”.  I kept coming up with the most excuses such as, I don’t have time, I must be home to help with homework, it cost money, I did xyz at work and that’s good enough, etc. 

Fast forward to now and I’m clearly getting a late start executing towards this goal. Better late than never, right?!

I decided to join this organization to connect with other like-minded businesswomen and entrepreneurs, to network, and to grow.  I’m glad I joined and attended their September event and I look forward to upcoming events.  Most importantly, I’m glad I went back to revive this goal.

Here are 3 tips to help you revive your untouched goals:

Acknowledge & Accept

Acknowledge the goal and don’t just pretend it no longer exists.  You set the goal for a reason so go back to your WHY.  Once you acknowledge the goal, next accept the fact that you let the goal linger.  The reason/excuses no longer matter.

Don’t waddle

Don’t beat yourself up over it. Simple, right. Easier said than done, yup.

When you find yourself waddling in self-pity, go back to tip #1.

Goal Recast

After you accept that you dropped the ball or fell behind on a goal(s) and after you’ve stopped waddling in the situation it’s time to pick up the pieces.  Understand why you let the goal linger and what systems, tools, mindset or processes you need to put in place to succeed going forward.

Ensure your goals are S.M.A.R.T, Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Bound.  Don’t forget to make any needed adjustments to the goal and start executing against the goal!

My encouragement to you is that you go back to your 2019 goals. I know it’s almost year end ant that’s OK!  Follow these 3 tips and get going, your success is waiting.
